Warp is any distortion in the door itself and does not refer to the relation of the door to the frame or jamb in which it is hung. The term warp shall include bow, cup, and twist. In measuring the amount of warp present in a door, the following method shall be used: bow, cup, or twist shall be measured by placing a straight edge, tout wire or string on the suspected concave face of the door at any angle, (i.e., horizontally, vertically, diagonally), with the door in its installed position. The measurement of bow, cup or twist shall be made at the point of maximum distance between the bottom of the straight-edge, tout wire or string, and the face of the door.

A WORD ABOUT HARDWOOD DOORS
Hardwood doors like fine hardwood furniture; require special attention while in the unfinished state. We buy only the finest furniture grade hardwoods that have been dried to exacting specifications. We control the conditions under which your door is manufactured and we ship the door in a poly bag to minimize the moisture change of the door.Hardwood is desired for its aesthetics in making fine doors because of its rich grain, texture, structure, and density. These same attributes make the hardwood door in its unfinished state, more susceptible than Pine or other softwoods to expansion and contraction caused by temperature and humidity variations.
Since these doors are shipped to you unsealed and unfinished, we cannot warrant against the natural characteristics of this wood which may occur in the various conditions encountered from our plant to your finished opening. Characteristics such as shrinking or cupping of panels, some surface checking, and slight shrinking or swelling which will expose small cracks at the joints may occur under certain condition. However, these problems can be minimized or prevented by proper care and handling as outlined below.
HANDLING DOORS, SIDELIGHTS AND TRANSOMS
- Deliver to building site after plaster or cement is dry. If doors or sidelights are stored at job site more than one week, all edges must be sealed.
- Doors and sidelights should always be stored on edge, supported vertically (never lean), in clean dry surroundings.
- Millwork products should never be exposed to excessive heat, dryness, humidity, or direct sunlight prior to finishing.
- Handle millwork products with clear hands or gloves, and avoid dragging across each other or other surfaces.
- Protect from foreign matter, as certain chemicals, oil, texture, etc. will prevent a high quality finish, and can cause spotting and blotching.
- Certain products are protected by a plastic cover which was installed at the factory. This protective cover should be removed at least 48 hours before installing. (WARNING: To avoid danger of suffocation, keep this plastic bag away from babies and children).
INSTALLATION OF DOORS AND SIDELIGHTS
- All doors up to and including 7' height require (3) hinges, and doors over 7' must have four (4) hinges (ball bearing hinges provide much smoother operation for stile and rail doors).
- The structural strength of the door must not be Impaired In the fitting, application of hardware, .or cutting for special details.
NOTE: When installing mortise lock hardware in the edge of a door, remove a minimum amount of wood in depth and width to meet hardware manufacturer's specifications - excess removal weakens the door stile structure. - All doors and sidelights are factory sanded, but due to the reaction of humidity, handling of the product and other factors, they should be given a thorough hand sanding with 150 to 180 grit sandpaper just prior to finishing.
